Worth Avenue- a day of exploring

           

When was the last time you strolled Worth Ave?  It had been a while for me, but Local Moms Scoop and the Worth Avenue Association got the gals together for a fun day to explore and NOW I rememberer why people travel from all over the world to enjoy this beautiful unique street with its rich history, fabulous shopping (SO MANY SUMMER SALES NOW!), and time tested dining.  There are galleries to peruse and bougainvillea shrouded via’s to explore.

Stubbs and Wooten was founded in Palm Beach in 1993 and remains a year round staple for locals (ladies and gents!) and the perfect souvenir for visitors. You can pick up one of their classic, tongue in cheek, styles, or DESIGN YOUR OWN one of a kind.  (We say when in doubt MONOGRAM everything.)

Speaking of customizing the Jimmy Choo store has delightful shoes and can create whatever you little heart desires.  A higher heel, more sparkle, another color all together…  no problem.

And while we are making things just the way we want them, the flagship Lilly Pulitzer store is a must visit.  This is the ONLY Lilly store that has a design bar where you can choose the fabric, trimmings and cut for your ideal outfit and your wish is their command.  How special!

Next stop the Esplanade to visit Akris, a 3rd generation family owned fashion house based in Switzerland since 1922 and Edward Beiner a fantastic eyewear brand started almost 40 years ago by its namesake in Miami(who is a lovely innovative man who cares about service). Linda Gary at her office of the same name was a fascinating stop.  She is a weather of knowledge and history.  She said something so beautiful, that “Palm Beach maintain’s it’s history. We take old homes and restore and improve them. It’s safe, it’s beautiful and filled with wonderful people.”  Speaking of beautiful, Woody Michleb Beauty and Lotus Hair Studio share a space that feels like an art gallery (because it is) and has everything from blowouts to teeth whitening.

If you have not visited the next stop Jewelmer it is worth a hello, no one will bite if you just want to pop in to see their amazing sustainable luxury: the golden pearl of the south sea.  One of their  pearls takes 5 years to make and transforming that into a bracelet takes 800 hours.

We previewed the new Bottega line from new 33 year old designer and OH LA LA!  Il Papiro has been making paper in Florence for over 200 years.  They have so many beautiful products, including a 100% cotton hand bound wine journal with space for the label and tasting notes that would make a memorable gift.  I picked up a calligraphy gift for the kids and some greeting cards.

Don’t miss the Sherry Frankel’s Managerie, you can find a gift to make anyone laugh!

For dining, you have several great options.  The romantic Renato’s, chic Bice, and timeless Taboo.

Dea fine linens is 3rd generation family owned all made in Tuscany their cotton sateen is perhaps the softest thing I have ever felt.  In true Worth Avenue spirit they will customize anything you desire.

The Island Company flagship store is so welcoming you must pop in for a look at their new home goods line.  (and try a sip of their rum too!)

A visit to The Colony is the perfect finale.  This hospitable hub offers live music every night and it’s easy to see why it is home to more than 40 weddings a year.

I highly recommend the Worth Avenue walking history tour offered weekly in season.  You will learn things like – there are only two graves on palm beach and one belongs to a famous NON architect- Addison Mizner’s monkey and can be seen in the Pizza al Fresco courtyard.  You will learn about a pig who resides in that same monkeys old home and so much more.
