2 OUT OF EVERY 5 KIDS have at least one cavity by the time they finish elementary school.
The main reason is sugar.

This time of year, it can be hard to avoid sugar, but Dr Ryan has some tips:

🪥Whatever sweets you choose, enjoy it then quickly brush and floss.

🍫His top pick for a sweet is Plain chocholate (rinses off easily).

Dr says steer clear of:
🍭Sticky and gummy candy are no good because they, you guessed it, stick to your teeth.
🍬Sour gummies are the worst because the acidity plus the sugar is a bad combo for your teeth enamel.
🍩Hard candies like lollypops are a bad choice because they either stay in your mouth for a long time OR get bitten into which can damage your teeth.

All the things parents can do at home to encourage great dental health are very important, but don’t forget that you’re not in this fight alone! Dr Ryan and his team can help. If you have concerns about your or your child’s teeth or gums, schedule an appointment. They can identify any problems and determine the best next steps to take. And regular preventative appointments are important too!
