SUMMARY:Science Movie Series: Apollo 13 Film Screening and QandA
DESCRIPTION:On Monday\, February 16\, join Glazer Hall and Cox Science Center and Aquarium for a screening of this iconic film- based on the events of the Apollo 13 lunar mission\, which took place more than 55 years ago. Astronauts Jim Lovell (Tom Hanks)\, Fred Haise (Bill Paxton) and Jack Swigert (Kevin Bacon) find everything going according to plan after leaving Earth’s orbit when an oxygen tank explodes\, and the scheduled moon landing is called off. Director Ron Howard emphasized scientific accuracy for Apollo 13 by going to great lengths to recreate realistic conditions\, working with NASA to build the set and train the cast in astronaut and flight controller duties. \nThe screening will be followed by a Q&A with Nicole Cummings\, R10 NASA Program Manager. \nDesigned for audiences of all ages\, the series invites guests to explore\, imagine and be inspired by the discoveries shaping our world and the possibilities of tomorrow. From space exploration and artificial intelligence to ocean conservation\, each screening offers an immersive experience that combines storytelling\, science and conversation. \nThe series builds toward a special Earth Day celebration on April 22\, featuring the North American premiere of National Geographic’s “Ocean\,” narrated by Sir David Attenborough and accompanied by a live orchestral and operatic performance by the Palm Beach Symphony and singers from the Palm Beach Opera. With stunning cinematography and live musical accompaniment\, the screening offers a breathtaking journey through coral reefs\, kelp forests and the open sea while underscoring the vital role of healthy oceans in sustaining life on Earth. \nFor tickets and additional information\, visit https://glazerhall.org/event-category/science-films/.
