Name: Michele Owaski
Where did you grow up:
I was born in Los Angeles, CA but spent majority of my childhood in Boca Raton, FL
Town you live in now:
Jupiter
Why you love living there:
I love the community, the amount of families, and the safety. Although it is growing, it is much calmer here from where I grew up. There are always activities or events to partake in, without feeling like a big city. Also, nothing beats winters here!
Tell me about your kids
We have two loving and wild boys, Dean and Emmett. Dean is six and has an insatiable curiosity. An in depth explanation is required for every question, so we are constantly learning! He currently is in karate and soccer, but he wants to try everything from music to science, and “every sport” as he says. If only there was enough time! Emmett is four and is growing into a fun and strong-willed boy. He loves building legos and creating and giving out artwork. His work can be seen on many refrigerators around the county. He also enjoys long walks with his daddy and dogs.
Favorite things to do with the kids locally:
We love going bike riding at Riverbend Park and always try to go early enough to see the deer. Afterward, the boys insist on getting an acai bowl at the local food truck. Those mornings are always so peaceful.
What’s your day job?
I work as a Physician Assistant at Gardens Dermatology for the past eight years. It has been a very rewarding career! I love making a difference in the community and in people’s lives whether it is treating acne, eczema, skin cancers, or any multitude of skin ailments. I am truly grateful that I have the balance to be present for my children and work in a career I am passionate about.
I must add – Living in the sunshine state, we have to be diligent about having our skin checked so we can detect and treat the earliest warning signs of skin cancer. I know us moms are all busy, but don’t forget about your screenings!
What is your best parenting advice? Lay it on us
Tough question! I feel that parenting is such a dynamic process. Every stage of their life I am learning and growing with them. Right now, I really love connecting with them by talking about their day and taking time to pretend play, work on legos, or play board games. I always have laundry, dishes or a multitude of other chores and responsibilities to get done, but I have to remind myself that it can wait and things don’t need to be perfect. My hope is that this connection and strong bond will allow them to always feel loved and cherished and to know they always have us in their corner. Isn’t that what we all want!
What do you do for self care
I love to read. I have a monthly book club that I attend as well that keeps me accountable.
Karaoke – What are you singing
No one wants to hear me singing karaoke! When Whitney Houston’s “I wanna dance with somebody” comes on at an event, I do suddenly become her back up singer/dancer. It can’t be helped.
