Name: Karen Burnett
Where did you grow up: I was born on Long Island, NY and after middle school my family moved to Tulsa Oklahoma where I went to high school and then college at OU
Town you live in now: Palm Beach Gardens
Why you love living there:
I live in Alton where everyday I am reminded of the simple joy of being outside, jogging and biking, walking dogs and kids being kids. I love so much the walkable community, the ease of access to the highways and restaurants and shops. I am so at ease here sometimes I forget to bring shoes when I leave the house no joke!
Tell me about your kids:
My daughter, Sydney, is 19 and a sophomore at the University of Miami studying Communication, Public Relations and everything about sustainable living! She’s one of the editors/photographers for the university magazine so I hope I can still fit on her schedule for more of her incredible professional shots! My son, Lukas, is 17 and a junior at The Benjamin School on the Varsity football, soccer and tennis teams and I cannot keep enough Protein powder and almond milk in stock for him lol.
Favorite things to do with the kids locally:
Discovering new places for healthy food with my kids is incredible. They are really experiencing how amazing you feel when you choose fresh and organic. Years ago my answer without hesitation would have been Da Beach but these teenagers are hanging with friends now rather than me no matter how cool a mom I insist I am haha
What’s your ‘day job’? How did you get started with it?
I am a yoga teacher morning, day and night! My lifetime professional fitness career evolved into opening my yoga studio in Palm Beach Gardens many years ago when I realized that yoga provided me with all I needed to create the happiest and healthiest life and in turn share that with my community. Offering yoga feels as if I don’t work at all. Combining my studio and purpose with the energy of Jill Romano and establishing Thrive Power Yoga Palm Beach together has been a great gift to me to bring more of my energy to this ‘job’ that I love so much!
What is your best parenting advise. Lay it on us. Be a model of the behavior you want to teach your children. How you do everything and anything is what our children know. Their minds will decide what our words mean in their world but our actions are an experience, not something you can read somewhere and are the real example of cause and effect for them.
What do you do for self care? more yoga, more quiet space for any form of meditation
