What is the name of your organization?
The Hands and Feet
What is your mission? To provide material items to children entering the foster care system in South Florida and delivering it directly to them.
How and when did you get started? We launched in July of 2021 and have served over 150 children in 4 month months. We are active in PBC and Treasure Coast and will be launching in Broward by January. After fostering for 5 years with my husband, taking in 23 children, and adopting 4 of them we realized we needed to close our home to more placements. The gaping hole left in my heart though never disappeared and so a few months after closing I started The Hands and Feet. We bridge the gap between families who need supplies for the children they are caring for and getting access to it! Having a delivery service right to these families homes is so incredibly important!
Who do you help? Anyone with an open DCF case, meaning a parent who has not had their child removed but has services put into place, or a child removed from their home, or a child who has been reunited with their parents but the case is still open for 6 months.Â
Are there volunteer opportunities? Any where children can be helpful/involved?
We do! Picking up items for delivering and dropping them off to family’s. For more information on volunteering in PBC email sarah@handsandfeetfl.com or volunteering in the treasure coast colleen@handsandfeetfl.com
Are there any specific items that people can donate? We take gently used clothing sizes newborn to teens (juniors clothing or teen style clothing in adults). We also take baby gear, cribs, crib mattresses, formula, bottles, and things of that sort.
What else do we need to know about you? We are fully run on volunteers and community support. We have a passion to love our community and the most vulnerable children in our area.Â
