This month\, we’ll be at Blowing Rocks Preserve. \n**THIS IS AN OFF-SITE PROGRAM!** We will meet in front of the preserve’s nature center at 10:00 am. Together\, we’ll walk the trail\, observe plants and animals with our magnifying glasses & binoculars\, and then return to the nature center. \nAdults and children should come prepared to be outside for an hour. This includes comfortable clothing\, closed toe shoes\, hats\, sunscreen\, bug spray\, and water bottles. \nLimited to 20 children (+ their accompanying adults). DESCRIPTION:The AutoNation® IMAX® 3D Theater at the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS) will premiere Blue Whales: Return of the Giants starting on January 26\, 2024. The first giant-screen film on the subject\, Blue Whales\, was produced by Oceanic Films in collaboration with Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Tangled Bank Studios and SK Films and funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). MODS is one of only a few Florida theaters with screens large enough to display life-sized blue whales. \nBlue Whales: Return of the Giants introduces audiences to the endangered species\, which is not widely understood despite its status as the largest animal to have ever existed. Through two scientific expeditions\, the film shows stunning footage of blue whale feeding habits\, long-distance communication and mother-calf relationships. One expedition focuses on the search for a missing blue whale population off the coast of the Seychelles Islands in the Indian Ocean while the other expedition joins marine biologist Diane Gendron\, also known as the “Blue Whale Whisperer\,” in the Gulf of California to observe whale families. \nNarrated by award-winning actor Andy Serkis\, scored by Academy Award-winner Steven Price\, and presented in 3D\, Blue Whales will immerse audiences in the ocean alongside the massive blue whales and other species such as dolphins\, sperm whales\, sea lions and orcas. \nThe documentary also features research from local marine biologist Jeremy Kiszka\, professor of biology at Florida International University in Miami\, Florida. DESCRIPTION:$15 registration required \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nParticipants will learn basic techniques for fishing including knot tying\, casting\, fish handling\, and proper catch-and-release techniques.\nIn addition to fishing skills\, participants are taught to be responsible anglers and discover how to reduce their impact on marine life. Fish caught during this program will always be released. All fishing equipment and bait is provided. Participants will receive a Responsible Anglers Certificate following their completion of the program. Please see details during registration for recommended items to bring. \nNOTE: this program meets at the Juno Beach Pier.
