Created by the filmmakers of popular giant screen titles Sea Lions: Life by A Whisker and Serengeti: Journey to the Heart of Africa\, Elephants: Giants of the Desert brings the inspiring story of a resilient elephant family surviving against the odds in one of the harshest environments on Earth – Africa’s Namib Desert – to the giant screen for the very first time. \nFilmed on location in the Namib\, one of the oldest and largest deserts\, the film provides unprecedented access to one of only two populations of desert elephants in the world\, totaling close to 150 individuals compared to a historic population of 2\,500-3\,500 in the 18th century. Despite having significant needs for water\, these elephants have somehow learned to thrive in this land of extremes. With a slow reproduction cycle of 3+ years and a high mortality rate due partly to the desert conditions\, every calf becomes more than precious\, and the desert elephants themselves seem to know it well\, too. \nThe film’s story is driven by Little Foot\, a newborn calf\, as she survives her perilous and most vulnerable first year despite the odds\, helped by a fierce extended family of elephants. Audiences will follow Little Foot on an epic and at times whimsical journey\, getting up close and personal with the largest land mammals on the planet as they care for the smallest member of the herd. Together the matriarchal herd of aunts and sisters will brave the desert’s elements and use some elephant superpowers\, from finding underground aquifers to foreseeing sandstorms. Through the eyes of these elephants\, audiences will also see the hidden side of an otherworldly and formidable landscape\, where a cast of iconic animals including giraffes\, monkeys and lions form a unique canvas of life. \nTo capture the adventures of Little Foot on screen\, the filmmaking crew including Paul Phelan\, Tamatea Kohu and Cam Batten lived another kind of adventure behind the camera\, lugging intricate production gear into the remote desert\, and battling the elements despite being out of their natural habitat. DESCRIPTION:Turtle Walks are a unique program that allows our visitors to learn about and observe the nesting and egg-laying process of loggerhead sea turtles. \nDuration\n\nApproximately 3 Hours\nThere’s no way to know the exact duration of the program from night to night\, although the program is officially scheduled from 9pm – 12am. The length of the program depends on when we spot a loggerhead sea turtle and her behavior. If we do spot one\, it could be at any point in the evening. If no turtle has been spotted by midnight\, the program concludes.\n\nAbout\nWith the approval of state issued permits\, experienced Loggerhead Marinelife Center scouts will patrol our designated section of Juno Beach searching for sea turtles while visitors enjoy an informative presentation on the plight of sea turtles and engage in a variety of hands-on learning experiences. Once a loggerhead sea turtle emerges and begins her egg-laying process\, the group is then led down to the beach to witness this unforgettable experience. \nWhat happens if I don’t see a sea turtle?\nWe cannot guarantee that a loggerhead sea turtle will carry out her nesting process on the evening of your scheduled program. Though we cannot offer refunds\, all ticket sales directly benefit Loggerhead Marinelife Center’s mission and the care of our sea turtle patients. \nWhat are my chances to see a turtle?\nThere is absolutely NO way to predict the successful nesting of a sea turtle on the night of your scheduled walk. Sea turtles never RSVP\, and we have no way of knowing what the likelihood of seeing a sea turtle will be from night to night. Juno Beach\, however\, is one of the densest nesting sites for loggerhead sea turtles in the world. \nHow does the program work?\nNesting is highest for loggerhead sea turtles in June and July. During these months\, we offer turtle walks to the public Tuesday-Saturday under a required permit issued by the state of Florida. Once registered for an evening\, visitors come to the center and receive a presentation\, at which time our scouts are on the beach in search of activity. If the scouts spot a loggerhead sea turtle carrying out her nesting process\, they will radio to bring the group down to watch. \nHow long is the program?\nThere’s no way to know the exact duration of the program from night to night\, although the program is officially scheduled from 9pm – 12am. The length of the program depends entirely on when and if we spot a sea turtle. If we do spot one\, it could be at any point in the evening. If no turtle has been spotted by midnight\, the program concludes. \nCan I bring a flashlight?\nSorry\, flashlights are not permitted. \nCan I take pictures?\nWe do not permit photography of any form throughout the program. \nMore Info\n\nChildren must be 10 years or older to attend the walks\, and all participants must be able to walk up to half a mile on the beach.\nDue to our State issued permit requirements\, we can only accommodate a small number of people per night and dates fill up quickly. There is no relationship between sea turtle nesting activity and the phase of the moon\, the weather\, or the tides. All scheduled Turtle Walk nights have the same odds of the group seeing a sea turtle nesting. There are no refunds on tickets if a sea turtle is not spotted.\n\nWhat to Wear\n\nDark clothing is preferred to minimize the impact on nesting sea turtles. Bug spray and comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended.\nWhat if it’s raining? We run our program rain or shine and only stay off the beach in the event of lightning. During this waiting period\, guests will be onsite enjoying our presentation. We do not cancel the program due to inclement weather. If the forecast calls for rain\, we recommend guests wear raincoats or ponchos. No umbrellas please.

DESCRIPTION:MODS Sensory-Friendly Sundays provide a sensory sensitive environment for individuals on the Autism Spectrum. The museum is open two hours early for exploration and activities followed by an IMAX film at 12:30 p.m. \nTo provide a more sensory-sensitive environment for individuals on the autism spectrum\, the theater lights will be turned up and the sound will be lowered. All films will be presented in 2D and no trailers will be shown before the movie. Audience members are welcome to get up\, sing\, walk\, dance and shout without worrying about complaints. Families can bring snacks from home\, blankets and other small items to make themselves comfortable. \nThroughout the Museum\, children can participate in a variety of sensory-based activities. They can engage in social interactions and improve their processing\, modulation and regulation of sensory input to increase their participation in a natural environment. \nDon’t miss this special opportunity to experience South Florida’s award-winning attraction featuring 150\,000 square feet of dynamic science exhibits\, an outdoor science park\, a live animal collection\, a rotating schedule of science shows\, learning labs\, café\, store and a grand atrium featuring the Great Gravity Clock\, a 52-foot-tall kinetic energy sculpture; the largest clock in Florida. If no turtle has been spotted by midnight\, the program concludes.\n\nAbout\nWith the approval of state issued permits\, experienced Loggerhead Marinelife Center scouts will patrol our designated section of Juno Beach searching for sea turtles while visitors enjoy an informative presentation on the plight of sea turtles and engage in a variety of hands-on learning experiences. Once a loggerhead sea turtle emerges and begins her egg-laying process\, the group is then led down to the beach to witness this unforgettable experience. \nWhat happens if I don’t see a sea turtle?\nWe cannot guarantee that a loggerhead sea turtle will carry out her nesting process on the evening of your scheduled program. Though we cannot offer refunds\, all ticket sales directly benefit Loggerhead Marinelife Center’s mission and the care of our sea turtle patients. \nWhat are my chances to see a turtle?\nThere is absolutely NO way to predict the successful nesting of a sea turtle on the night of your scheduled walk. Sea turtles never RSVP\, and we have no way of knowing what the likelihood of seeing a sea turtle will be from night to night. Juno Beach\, however\, is one of the densest nesting sites for loggerhead sea turtles in the world. \nHow does the program work?\nNesting is highest for loggerhead sea turtles in June and July. All scheduled Turtle Walk nights have the same odds of the group seeing a sea turtle nesting.
