SUMMARY:Cities of the Future at the AutoNation® IMAX® 3D Theater at the Museum of Discovery and Science
DESCRIPTION:Step into the future and discover the exciting innovations transforming our world with Cities of the Future\, now playing in the AutoNation® IMAX® 3D Theater at the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS). Narrated by award-winning actor John Krasinski\, Cities of the Future highlights the creative solutions engineers are designing right now to meet the challenges of a changing world and forge a brighter\, more sustainable future. \nFrom electric flying cars and aerial highways to smart buildings\, greener infrastructure and solar power beamed from space\, Cities of the Future offers an inspiring vision of how we will live 50 years from now\, combining state-of-the-art CGI with live-action cinematography. The film also looks at modern urban landscapes in the midst of transformation\, revealing profound changes already happening in some of the world’s greatest cities\, from Los Angeles to Amsterdam to Singapore. \nCities of the Future also introduces viewers to a team of middle school students participating in the Future City Competition\, an annual contest where 60\,000 middle school students from the U.S. and around the world compete to create a model future city. \nCities of the Future is produced by MacGillivray Freeman Films in partnership with the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)\, the same team that created the blockbuster giant screen documentary Dream Big: Engineering Our World. \nTo view the trailer\, please visit citiesofthefuturefilm.com. \nThe AutoNation® IMAX® Theater at the Museum of Discovery and Science is located at 401 SW 2nd Street in Fort Lauderdale. Cities of the Future is included in the MODS Discovery Pass\, an all-in-one ticket that includes Museum exhibitions\, live science demonstrations and one IMAX documentary film. SUMMARY:T. Rex Roars into the Autonation® IMAX ® 3D Theater at the Museum of Discovery And Science
DESCRIPTION:Following the global announcement of the discovery of a rare juvenile T. rex specimen by three young boys\, the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS) is pleased to announce the premiere of T. REX\, the giant screen documentary that captured this incredible expedition on camera. This captivating science adventure and a love letter to T. rex\, the Greatest of All Tyrants – the GOAT – is now playing at the AutoNation® IMAX® 3D Theater. \nAnchored by the true story of the young fossil hunters who made the discovery of a lifetime when they spotted a large\, fossilized leg bone on a walk on public lands in North Dakota\, T. REX intercuts the remarkable fossil dig\, with cutting edge computer graphics that bring the iconic T. rex – from hatchling to hulking adult – to life. Narrated by Jurassic Park actor Sam Neill\, T. REX explores the newest science that has helped reinvent our understanding of the iconic predator. \nWith hat tips to famous specimens\, landmark discoveries\, and wild cinematic T. rex depictions over the last century\, the film also brings to life a cast of prehistoric characters including rex’s archrival\, Triceratops; Quetzalcoatlus\, one the largest animals ever to take flight; and the 25-foot long Sinraptor\, a species that likely fed on early tyrannosaurs. \nT. REX is an immersive cinema experience produced by Giant Screen Films and D3D Cinema\, in partnership with the Field Museum\, Denver Museum of Nature and Science\, Houston Museum of Natural Science and Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County\, in association with the Cincinnati Museum Center\, Cleveland Museum of Natural History\, Museums Victoria\, and New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science. The T. rex fossil featured in the film was collected on land under the jurisdiction of the US Bureau of Land Management\, permit ND2023-00084. \nThe AutoNation® IMAX® Theater at the Museum of Discovery and Science is located at 401 SW 2nd Street in Fort Lauderdale. T. REX is included in the MODS Discovery Pass\, an all-in-one ticket that includes Museum exhibitions\, live science demonstrations and one IMAX documentary film. SUMMARY:Guided Turtle Walk
DESCRIPTION:Turtle Walks are a unique program that allows our visitors to learn about and observe the nesting and egg-laying process of loggerhead sea turtles. \nDuration\n\nApproximately 3 Hours\nThere’s no way to know the exact duration of the program from night to night\, although the program is officially scheduled from 9pm – 12am. The length of the program depends on when we spot a loggerhead sea turtle and her behavior. If we do spot one\, it could be at any point in the evening. If no turtle has been spotted by midnight\, the program concludes.\n\nAbout\nWith the approval of state issued permits\, experienced Loggerhead Marinelife Center scouts will patrol our designated section of Juno Beach searching for sea turtles while visitors enjoy an informative presentation on the plight of sea turtles and engage in a variety of hands-on learning experiences. Once a loggerhead sea turtle emerges and begins her egg-laying process\, the group is then led down to the beach to witness this unforgettable experience. \nWhat happens if I don’t see a sea turtle?\nWe cannot guarantee that a loggerhead sea turtle will carry out her nesting process on the evening of your scheduled program. Though we cannot offer refunds\, all ticket sales directly benefit Loggerhead Marinelife Center’s mission and the care of our sea turtle patients. \nWhat are my chances to see a turtle?\nThere is absolutely NO way to predict the successful nesting of a sea turtle on the night of your scheduled walk. Sea turtles never RSVP\, and we have no way of knowing what the likelihood of seeing a sea turtle will be from night to night. Juno Beach\, however\, is one of the densest nesting sites for loggerhead sea turtles in the world. \nHow does the program work?\nNesting is highest for loggerhead sea turtles in June and July. During these months\, we offer turtle walks to the public Tuesday-Saturday under a required permit issued by the state of Florida. Once registered for an evening\, visitors come to the center and receive a presentation\, at which time our scouts are on the beach in search of activity. If the scouts spot a loggerhead sea turtle carrying out her nesting process\, they will radio to bring the group down to watch. \nHow long is the program?\nThere’s no way to know the exact duration of the program from night to night\, although the program is officially scheduled from 9pm – 12am. The length of the program depends entirely on when and if we spot a sea turtle. If we do spot one\, it could be at any point in the evening. If no turtle has been spotted by midnight\, the program concludes. \nCan I bring a flashlight?\nSorry\, flashlights are not permitted. \nCan I take pictures?\nWe do not permit photography of any form throughout the program. \nMore Info\n\nChildren must be 10 years or older to attend the walks\, and all participants must be able to walk up to half a mile on the beach.\nDue to our State issued permit requirements\, we can only accommodate a small number of people per night and dates fill up quickly. There is no relationship between sea turtle nesting activity and the phase of the moon\, the weather\, or the tides. All scheduled Turtle Walk nights have the same odds of the group seeing a sea turtle nesting. There are no refunds on tickets if a sea turtle is not spotted.\n\nWhat to Wear\n\nDark clothing is preferred to minimize the impact on nesting sea turtles. Bug spray and comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended.\nWhat if it’s raining? We run our program rain or shine and only stay off the beach in the event of lightning. During this waiting period\, guests will be onsite enjoying our presentation. We do not cancel the program due to inclement weather. If the forecast calls for rain\, we recommend guests wear raincoats or ponchos. No umbrellas please.

SUMMARY:South Florida Symphony Orchestra Presents Its Premiere of Leonard Bernstein’s Candide
DESCRIPTION:Continuing with its thrilling Icons & Rebels Masterworks season\, South Florida Symphony Orchestra (SFSO) is proud to present its premiere of Leonard Bernstein’s satirical masterpiece Candide at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday\, January 16\, at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. \nLed by SFSO’s award-winning music director Sebrina María Alfonso\, this semi-staged concert version of Candide follows in the manner of Lonny Price’s 2004 production for the New York Philharmonic\, made popular through the PBS series “Great Performances.” Bernstein’s acclaimed masterpiece is played out with the orchestra\, minimal sets and costumes\, a dynamic cast of actor-vocalists featuring David Walton (Candide); Chelsea Lehnea (Cunegonde); Jason Zacher (Dr. Pangloss/Voltaire); Alissa Anderson (The Old Lady)\, Lovell Rose (Maximilian)\, and the South Florida Symphony Chorus performing all together on stage. Dan Wallace Miller provides stage direction. \nExperience Candide’s riotous journey as he embarks on a whirlwind adventure teeming with humor\, unexpected twists\, and profound philosophical reflections. Bernstein’s iconic music\, adapted from Voltaire’s famed Enlightenment-era novella\, sets the backdrop for an unforgettable evening filled with laughter and existential musings. An equal opportunity offender\, Candide spares no one. Everything and everyone is fair game in this irreverent satire. \nFrom the over-the-top heights of Cunegonde’s “Glitter and Be Gay” and the rarely heard comedic duet “We Are Women” to the stirring depths of Candide’s introspective ponderings\, audiences will enjoy a provocative perspective on life’s absurdities and the enduring pursuit of optimism. \nAdding allure to the premiere evening\, Symphony patrons are invited to attend the “Glitter and Be Gay Gala” 2025. The separately ticketed formal gala evening (held prior to the performance)\, recognizing community leaders and supporting SFSO’s impactful artistic\, educational\, and community outreach initiatives\, begins at 5 p.m. and includes bubbles and hors d’oeuvres on the Wendt Terraces\, a multi-course dinner in the Mary N. Porter Riverview Ballroom\, the Candide performance and dancing dessert and dancing with the artists post-performance in the Mary N. Porter Riverview Ballroom. Tickets start at $500 and can be purchased at southfloridasymphony.org/gala-2025. \nNow in its 27th season\, SFSO invites audiences to a tantalizing season featuring upcoming works by Mozart\, Strauss\, Berlioz\, Prokofiev and Bruckner. The concerts will take place in Fort Lauderdale\, Miami and Key West. \nFrom sold-out masterworks performances to accompanying today’s musicians such as Natalie Merchant and performing modern musical scores\, South Florida’s largest symphonic orchestra is continuing its journey of excellence inspiring audiences of all ages and musical genres. This season’s popular collaborations included performances of ARRIVAL From Sweden: The Music of ABBA and Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas\, featuring the iconic film screened live with audio and musical accompaniment. \nTickets for Candide are on sale now beginning at $25. Buy tickets online at southfloridasymphony.org; by phone at (954) 462-0222; or in-person at the Broward Center’s AutoNation Box Office. \nFor additional information\, visit southfloridasymphony.org\, call (954) 522-8445 or email info@southfloridasymphony.org.
