SUMMARY:Blue Whales: Return of the Giants Premieres at the AutoNation® IMAX® 3D Theater at the Museum of Discovery and Science
DESCRIPTION:The AutoNation® IMAX® 3D Theater at the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS) will premiere Blue Whales: Return of the Giants starting on January 26\, 2024. The first giant-screen film on the subject\, Blue Whales\, was produced by Oceanic Films in collaboration with Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Tangled Bank Studios and SK Films and funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). MODS is one of only a few Florida theaters with screens large enough to display life-sized blue whales. \nBlue Whales: Return of the Giants introduces audiences to the endangered species\, which is not widely understood despite its status as the largest animal to have ever existed. Through two scientific expeditions\, the film shows stunning footage of blue whale feeding habits\, long-distance communication and mother-calf relationships. One expedition focuses on the search for a missing blue whale population off the coast of the Seychelles Islands in the Indian Ocean while the other expedition joins marine biologist Diane Gendron\, also known as the “Blue Whale Whisperer\,” in the Gulf of California to observe whale families. \nNarrated by award-winning actor Andy Serkis\, scored by Academy Award-winner Steven Price\, and presented in 3D\, Blue Whales will immerse audiences in the ocean alongside the massive blue whales and other species such as dolphins\, sperm whales\, sea lions and orcas. \nThe documentary also features research from local marine biologist Jeremy Kiszka\, professor of biology at Florida International University in Miami\, Florida. Dr. Kiszka studies the ecology and behavior of cetaceans (whales and dolphins) in tropical marine ecosystems around the globe\, particularly in the Caribbean\, along the coasts of Florida and in the Indian Ocean. \nTo view the trailer\, please visit BlueWhalesfilm.com. \nThe AutoNation® IMAX® Theater at the Museum of Discovery and Science is located at 401 SW 2nd Street in Fort Lauderdale. Blue Whales: Return of the Giants is included in the MODS Discovery Pass\, an all-in-one ticket that includes Museum exhibitions\, live science demonstrations and one IMAX documentary film. For tickets\, please visit mods.org/tickets and for showtimes\, please visit mods.org/showtimes.

SUMMARY:Jr. Angler Fishing Tournament 2024
DESCRIPTION:The Loxahatchee River District’s River Center\, in partnership with Fishing Headquarters\, is delighted to announce the 11th Annual Jr. Angler Fishing Tournament. Due to its high popularity\, participation for this year’s tournament is expected to grow. Interested anglers should mark their calendars and set their reels for Saturday\, June 29th when the contest officially opens. \nAnglers will have until July 28\, 2024 to accumulate points in this unique catch-and-release tournament. Anglers provide a photo of themselves with the fish they catch and then submit it through an app. The contest runs over the course of four weeks instead of just a single day of competition. In addition\, the contest awards points not only for the number of fish caught\, but also for the number of different species represented in the submissions. The more fish you catch and the more species you catch\, the better your chances are to win! These innovative guidelines encourage contestants to spend time throughout the summer exploring the diverse habitats and fish species in Palm Beach and Martin Counties. \nThe tournament is open to anyone between the ages of 5 and 17\, but registration is required before submitted photographs can be awarded points. \nRSVP and LEARN MORE here: https://lrdrivercenter.org/events-calendar/fishing-tournament-2-2-278/?occurrence=2024-06-29

SUMMARY:T. Rex Roars into the Autonation® IMAX ® 3D Theater at the Museum of Discovery And Science
DESCRIPTION:Following the global announcement of the discovery of a rare juvenile T. rex specimen by three young boys\, the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS) is pleased to announce the premiere of T. REX\, the giant screen documentary that captured this incredible expedition on camera. This captivating science adventure and a love letter to T. rex\, the Greatest of All Tyrants – the GOAT – is now playing at the AutoNation® IMAX® 3D Theater. \nAnchored by the true story of the young fossil hunters who made the discovery of a lifetime when they spotted a large\, fossilized leg bone on a walk on public lands in North Dakota\, T. REX intercuts the remarkable fossil dig\, with cutting edge computer graphics that bring the iconic T. rex – from hatchling to hulking adult – to life. Narrated by Jurassic Park actor Sam Neill\, T. REX explores the newest science that has helped reinvent our understanding of the iconic predator. \nWith hat tips to famous specimens\, landmark discoveries\, and wild cinematic T. rex depictions over the last century\, the film also brings to life a cast of prehistoric characters including rex’s archrival\, Triceratops; Quetzalcoatlus\, one the largest animals ever to take flight; and the 25-foot long Sinraptor\, a species that likely fed on early tyrannosaurs. \nT. REX is an immersive cinema experience produced by Giant Screen Films and D3D Cinema\, in partnership with the Field Museum\, Denver Museum of Nature and Science\, Houston Museum of Natural Science and Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County\, in association with the Cincinnati Museum Center\, Cleveland Museum of Natural History\, Museums Victoria\, and New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science. The T. rex fossil featured in the film was collected on land under the jurisdiction of the US Bureau of Land Management\, permit ND2023-00084. \nThe AutoNation® IMAX® Theater at the Museum of Discovery and Science is located at 401 SW 2nd Street in Fort Lauderdale. T. REX is included in the MODS Discovery Pass\, an all-in-one ticket that includes Museum exhibitions\, live science demonstrations and one IMAX documentary film. For tickets\, please visit mods.org/tickets and for showtimes\, please visit mods.org/showtimes.

SUMMARY:Guided Turtle Walk
DESCRIPTION:Turtle Walks are a unique program that allows our visitors to learn about and observe the nesting and egg-laying process of loggerhead sea turtles. \nDuration\n\nApproximately 3 Hours\nThere’s no way to know the exact duration of the program from night to night\, although the program is officially scheduled from 9pm – 12am. The length of the program depends on when we spot a loggerhead sea turtle and her behavior. If we do spot one\, it could be at any point in the evening. If no turtle has been spotted by midnight\, the program concludes.\n\nAbout\nWith the approval of state issued permits\, experienced Loggerhead Marinelife Center scouts will patrol our designated section of Juno Beach searching for sea turtles while visitors enjoy an informative presentation on the plight of sea turtles and engage in a variety of hands-on learning experiences. Once a loggerhead sea turtle emerges and begins her egg-laying process\, the group is then led down to the beach to witness this unforgettable experience. \nWhat happens if I don’t see a sea turtle?\nWe cannot guarantee that a loggerhead sea turtle will carry out her nesting process on the evening of your scheduled program. Though we cannot offer refunds\, all ticket sales directly benefit Loggerhead Marinelife Center’s mission and the care of our sea turtle patients. \nWhat are my chances to see a turtle?\nThere is absolutely NO way to predict the successful nesting of a sea turtle on the night of your scheduled walk. Sea turtles never RSVP\, and we have no way of knowing what the likelihood of seeing a sea turtle will be from night to night. Juno Beach\, however\, is one of the densest nesting sites for loggerhead sea turtles in the world. \nHow does the program work?\nNesting is highest for loggerhead sea turtles in June and July. During these months\, we offer turtle walks to the public Tuesday-Saturday under a required permit issued by the state of Florida. Once registered for an evening\, visitors come to the center and receive a presentation\, at which time our scouts are on the beach in search of activity. If the scouts spot a loggerhead sea turtle carrying out her nesting process\, they will radio to bring the group down to watch. \nHow long is the program?\nThere’s no way to know the exact duration of the program from night to night\, although the program is officially scheduled from 9pm – 12am. The length of the program depends entirely on when and if we spot a sea turtle. If we do spot one\, it could be at any point in the evening. If no turtle has been spotted by midnight\, the program concludes. \nCan I bring a flashlight?\nSorry\, flashlights are not permitted. \nCan I take pictures?\nWe do not permit photography of any form throughout the program. \nMore Info\n\nChildren must be 10 years or older to attend the walks\, and all participants must be able to walk up to half a mile on the beach.\nDue to our State issued permit requirements\, we can only accommodate a small number of people per night and dates fill up quickly. There is no relationship between sea turtle nesting activity and the phase of the moon\, the weather\, or the tides. All scheduled Turtle Walk nights have the same odds of the group seeing a sea turtle nesting. There are no refunds on tickets if a sea turtle is not spotted.\n\nWhat to Wear\n\nDark clothing is preferred to minimize the impact on nesting sea turtles. Bug spray and comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended.\nWhat if it’s raining? We run our program rain or shine and only stay off the beach in the event of lightning. During this waiting period\, guests will be onsite enjoying our presentation. We do not cancel the program due to inclement weather. If the forecast calls for rain\, we recommend guests wear raincoats or ponchos. No umbrellas please.
