SUMMARY:South Florida Symphony Orchestra Presents Mozart’s Requiem and Symphony No. 40 at New World Center
DESCRIPTION:Revel in the mystery and magnificence of Mozart’s Requiem as South Florida Symphony Orchestra (SFSO) presents its premiere of the composer’s final moving masterpiece and his Symphony No. 40 in G minor! Led by SFSO’s award-winning music director Sebrina María Alfonso and featuring Katherine Henly\, soprano; Maggie Reneé\, mezzo-soprano; Norman Shankle tenor; Neil Nelson\, bass-baritone and the South Florida Symphony Chorus\, the concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday\, March 11\, at New World Center in Miami Beach. A pre-concert chat with Dr. Alan Mason will take place 30 minutes before the show at New World Center featuring in-depth conversation and insights about the work and composer. \nMozart’s Requiem is one of the most iconic classical compositions ever\, with the “Lacrimosa” movement standing out as one of classical music’s most popular movements. Together\, Requiem and “Lacrimosa” have approximately one billion views on YouTube and on Spotify\, “Lacrimosa” alone has garnered over 91 million streams. The work’s profound emotional depth has led to its inclusion in various films and adaptations by contemporary artists\, including Come and See (1985)\, The Big Lebowski (1998)\, Eyes Wide Shut (1999)\, and Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021). \nEnveloped in intrigue\, the 1791 piece was left unfinished at Mozart’s untimely death\, sparking rumors and legends about its creation and completion. Characterized by its sorrowful yet transcendent melodies\, powerful choral passages\, and orchestral depth\, the haunting beauty and emotional intensity of Mozart’s Requiem Mass\, coupled with the enigma of its origins\, have captivated listeners for centuries\, solidifying its place as a masterwork that transcends time and continues to inspire both reverence and curiosity. \nHis ever-popular Symphony No. 40 in G minor cements Mozart’s place as one of music’s greatest innovators. Daring\, evocative\, and dripping with emotion\, it beautifully exemplifies his prodigious status. \nSFSO will end its powerful 27th season honoring Icons & Rebels with a dazzling finale on April 10 featuring two celebrated works from Prokofiev and Bruckner. \nFrom sold-out masterworks performances to accompanying today’s musicians such as Natalie Merchant and performing modern musical scores\, South Florida’s largest symphonic orchestra is continuing its journey of excellence inspiring audiences of all ages and musical genres. This season’s popular collaborations included performances of ARRIVAL From Sweden: The Music of ABBA and Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas\, featuring the iconic film screened live with audio and musical accompaniment. \nTickets for this Masterworks IV program are on sale now beginning at $25. Buy tickets online at southfloridasymphony.org; by phone at (305) 673-3331; or in-person at the New World Center Box Office. SUMMARY:Guided Turtle Walk
DESCRIPTION:Turtle Walks are a unique program that allows our visitors to learn about and observe the nesting and egg-laying process of loggerhead sea turtles. \nDuration\n\nApproximately 3 Hours\nThere’s no way to know the exact duration of the program from night to night\, although the program is officially scheduled from 9pm – 12am. The length of the program depends on when we spot a loggerhead sea turtle and her behavior. If we do spot one\, it could be at any point in the evening. If no turtle has been spotted by midnight\, the program concludes.\n\nAbout\nWith the approval of state issued permits\, experienced Loggerhead Marinelife Center scouts will patrol our designated section of Juno Beach searching for sea turtles while visitors enjoy an informative presentation on the plight of sea turtles and engage in a variety of hands-on learning experiences. Once a loggerhead sea turtle emerges and begins her egg-laying process\, the group is then led down to the beach to witness this unforgettable experience. \nWhat happens if I don’t see a sea turtle?\nWe cannot guarantee that a loggerhead sea turtle will carry out her nesting process on the evening of your scheduled program. Though we cannot offer refunds\, all ticket sales directly benefit Loggerhead Marinelife Center’s mission and the care of our sea turtle patients. \nWhat are my chances to see a turtle?\nThere is absolutely NO way to predict the successful nesting of a sea turtle on the night of your scheduled walk. Sea turtles never RSVP\, and we have no way of knowing what the likelihood of seeing a sea turtle will be from night to night. Juno Beach\, however\, is one of the densest nesting sites for loggerhead sea turtles in the world. \nHow does the program work?\nNesting is highest for loggerhead sea turtles in June and July. During these months\, we offer turtle walks to the public Tuesday-Saturday under a required permit issued by the state of Florida. Once registered for an evening\, visitors come to the center and receive a presentation\, at which time our scouts are on the beach in search of activity. If the scouts spot a loggerhead sea turtle carrying out her nesting process\, they will radio to bring the group down to watch. \nHow long is the program?\nThere’s no way to know the exact duration of the program from night to night\, although the program is officially scheduled from 9pm – 12am. The length of the program depends entirely on when and if we spot a sea turtle. If we do spot one\, it could be at any point in the evening. If no turtle has been spotted by midnight\, the program concludes. \nCan I bring a flashlight?\nSorry\, flashlights are not permitted. \nCan I take pictures?\nWe do not permit photography of any form throughout the program. \nMore Info\n\nChildren must be 10 years or older to attend the walks\, and all participants must be able to walk up to half a mile on the beach.\nDue to our State issued permit requirements\, we can only accommodate a small number of people per night and dates fill up quickly. There is no relationship between sea turtle nesting activity and the phase of the moon\, the weather\, or the tides. All scheduled Turtle Walk nights have the same odds of the group seeing a sea turtle nesting. There are no refunds on tickets if a sea turtle is not spotted.\n\nWhat to Wear\n\nDark clothing is preferred to minimize the impact on nesting sea turtles. Bug spray and comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended.\nWhat if it’s raining? We run our program rain or shine and only stay off the beach in the event of lightning. During this waiting period\, guests will be onsite enjoying our presentation. We do not cancel the program due to inclement weather. If the forecast calls for rain\, we recommend guests wear raincoats or ponchos. No umbrellas please.
