Meet the Mom – Dawn Garcia

I grew up in Boynton Beach and now live in Wellington

I love where I live now because my family and I all live within a 2 mile radius and get together often. My sister and I live on the same street so its a nice stroll down the sidewalk to love on my nieces and nephew.

I have a 24 year old son, Alex, he is and has been my greatest gift and biggest blessing of all time. We love family dinners and trying new restaurants.

I’m a local photographer specializing in newborn through 1st year, birth, maternity and family photography. I was 16 when I had my son and didn’t have the money to have photos professionally taken so about 20 years ago, I got my first camera (film) and fell in love with the art of photography. Soon after learning my camera friends and family asked me to take their photos which I did for free until I really knew what I was doing. I didn’t start out with newborns, in fact, after doing my first one I thought, this is NOT for me but then quickly fell in love. Back then Anne Geddes was the go to newborn photographer and while I loved her photos I quickly found my style, grew my brand and filled my studio with the very best props, outfits and backdrops. This is my dream job which I do full time, even on my birthday and weekends because I love it so much.

My parenting advice is to enjoy the moments…the good, the bad, the chaotic, the messy, stressful and just want to run away moments. Take it from the mom who’s son is living on his own and its just me and hubby. I live for the spontaneous calls from my son wanting to come over for dinner or mother son dates. I can’t believe 24 years has gone by…I remember coming home from the hospital not having a clue how to be a Mom. I can’t believe I’m going to say this but I’d love to go back and fight about homework and eating veggies. I’ve raised the most amazing man who I’m beyond proud of.

My self care is church, fishing, and massages. My family and I are members at Christ Fellowship in Royal Palm. If you are looking for a church home come check it out.

Boy mom here….yep, I lip bass, know how to use a circle hook and hold my snook proud. You can find my husband, son and I on the intracoastal at least once a week near some dock lights.

Photography wrecks your body…think about it, I’m hunched over a baby for a few hours or running after kiddos in a field trying to get the best photos..my arthritic back begs me for massage relief. My favorite spa is at The Eau…they have a relaxing space that I just adore.
